When the Galaxy hits the home stretch this season, at least the schedule won't leave them limping, wheezing and staggering toward the finish line.
Instead of trying to pack appearances by David Beckham in all 12MLS markets into the final 3 1/2 months of the season, a stretch which left the Galaxy injured and exhausted, the Galaxy has a much more reasonable end of the season as MLS announced its full schedule Thursday.
This season, the Galaxy will play a comfortable eight games in the final eight weeks.
The start of the season is also comfortable. After the opener at Colorado on March 29, the Galaxy is home the entire month of April.
The addition of San Jose as an expansion team means the renewel of an old rivalry and acquaintances with former coach Frank Yallop and goalkeeper Joe Cannon.
It also necessitated playing neighbor Chivas USA three times this season, instead of four.
Those dates will be April 26, July 10 and August 14. Chivas hosts Chicago and Mexican star Cuahtemoc Blanco on June 19, and travels to Kansas City - the team that knocked it out of the playoffs last year - on Aug.9.
Chivas opens the season March30 at Dallas and returns home for its opener on April 5.
